My Story: Be Inspired Nutrition
Taking the plunge and moving to the Northern Rivers in 2008 came with the assumption of a slower paced and more enriched life. What I did not expect was a complete transition on my health and wellbeing. And it wasn’t like I had planned to change my diet and up my exercise routine. But I had somehow slipped into new habits and made small changes. For example, I started taking early morning walks, stopped having butter on my toast, walked a little further to get chores done, like walking to the clothesline; picked fruit from trees and vegetables from the garden, feed animals, collected eggs and checked on our header tank (primary water tank) which by the way was positioned up on a hill.
However, that was the beginning of an awakening to health. And instead of feeling that little bit older, I started feeling a little younger. I had fresh air in my lungs and a skip to my beat, I felt alive.
In addition, I had noticed my weight shift, clothes fitted better, and my eyes were brighter. I was sleeping well, felt happier and had more energy. Each visit to Sydney came with the response “You look fantastic!”, “What are you doing differently?”
I was cooking more, not using packaged products to make food, but cooking from scratch with wholefoods, real food. I also discovered new foods, like jaboticaba’s, quinoa and chia. We did not have a “Wholefood shops” where we lived in Sydney, so all these wonderful new shops with lots of ingredients to try was exciting, like being a kid in a candy shop.
This was when I truly discovered I had embraced healthy changes. I had changed my mind set, eliminated the negative talk and the self-loathing and challenged myself to try new things (go to uni for example), do things differently and create a new set of habits and rules. I felt positive and adapted to my new lifestyle with ease.
I was driven and empowered and wanted to share my newfound knowledge with the world. But hesitated, who was I and what did I really know? I had no qualifications, no formal knowledge on the topic of health, just my experience, knew how I felt, my opinion and things that I had learnt from a book, but all that was not enough. This was when I turned to education, starting with an Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine, 2012 and ending in University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition, 2017.
I followed the path and my instinct, not exactly sure where it would take me. But I could see my future clearly, mapped out as it were. Me as nutritionist and educator and visions of a business to Inspire others who also wanted change and make health and wellbeing a priority. That was 8 years ago now.
